Challenges and Problems of a Working Woman

We all talk of gender equality, woman empowerment and female education; but how far it has achieved in reality? Coming this far, evolving, civilizing, modernizing; the lot of women is very less changed in reality. Though well educated, employed and marching ahead; like all other women, working women too faces a lot of challenges and problems.

To mark her identity, to be independent, to earn a living, to run her family or to support her husband run the family…; there are numerous reasons today women step out of their home, to work and to earn. Breaking off her traditional image of home maker, women today are taking up new roles and challenges of work and career.

A woman plays so many roles (of daughter, sister, wife, daughter-in-law, mother…) and for ages has been a multi-tasker; one who cook food, does the domestic works, raises kids, and cares for everyone. She works 24X7, never complains and asks no remuneration.

Her tasks and challenges have increased and hardened multifold now when she is super multi-tasking; juggling between career, travelling, kitchen, kids, husband, house, society, personal health, passion and desires. Balancing between so many duties and obligations, a woman faces numerous challenges and problems every day, every time, and may be every second minute or second. Here a simplistic summary of what all a working woman has to face in her daily life, the challenges and the problems:

Discrimination at Work. Discrimination starts at the very level of recruitment and interview, where recruiters/interviewers see women incompetent for challenging roles and ask questions like whether you would be able to continue after marriage ?

Challenges to Safety, Life and Dignity. Sexual harassment, theft, molestation, eve-teasing, etc. are some of the forms of challenges working women face to their safety, life and dignity.

Non-acceptance of Talent, Offered Disrespect! A woman going out to work in many societies in seen very lowly and questioned about her character/moral. A working woman who is beautiful or well-maintained or presentable or is friendly with everyone and is progressing in her career instead of being complimented is disrespected and disgusted; is questioned/remarked on her dignity and morals.

Family Duties. In today’s modern era, even after working in the corporate world and after taking up challenging roles of executives/directors/marketing professional/IT professionals, etc.; the age old image of a woman of being a home-maker is not much changed. Even if she works, comes home tired/has to leave early for office; she is expected to cook food, take care of kids and all other household duties and the male counterparts may volunteer but they hold no responsibilities.

Juggling Between Work, Home, Relationships and Personal Life. Amid all the dilemma and stretch of balancing the job responsibilities, following her passion, going ahead with her aspirations and looking after her family-kids-husband; a woman handles and balances a big lot of stress, which deprives her of peace, rest, sleep, independent though and luxury to be herself.

Ego of Male Counterpart. One of the most tough to handle challenges is to manage and cope with the ego of your male counterpart as wife/partner. Males do support women to go out and work, but somewhere they find it hard to accept the progress and achievement of women whether she is his colleague or life partner.

Inequality as in Provision of Opportunities in Terms of Job Responsibilities, Projects and Organizational Advancement. One of the most unfortunate challenges for women that they are subject to undergo at work despite all their qualifications, skills, talent, hard work and performance; is to be overlooked and low rated in comparison to their male colleagues. This is one reason, why many women have to settle down at less challenging jobs than their capabilities/talent, or get stuck at an irrelevant job/field or get stuck at one point of career with no opportunities for further growth, etc.

Low Dignity and No Ownership of Her Own Earning. Mostly women are not seen as independent earners, who command respect and dignity. Instead is seen as a small back-wheel of a heavy vehicle and thus, her role and contribution is mostly over looked. In most of the families, especially middle class, upper middle class and lower middle class; it’s seen that the income of the woman either goes in the hands of her father or husband, rather than in her hands.

Sexual Harassment! Every single day a woman when steps out, stays out whole day working while travelling, in office, in field, in canteen, in outdoor meetings…; directly/indirectly she is subjected to a lot of sexual abuses and harassment. It’s not always with hands she is hurt, but she is attacked and hurt with eyes, with tongue, with gestures and of course unfortunately physically. A few women wave off, ignore and move on; some disgust them to the very soul, out there is no way out so with tears or suppressed anger they move on; while some root off their dignity and even existence. To some women have to compromise, to some escape routes, while some compel them to revolt or break down. And it’s no less than a part of the working women, directly or indirectly, to a small and ignorant to large scale.

How to Keep our Environment Clean, Start with Your Society

We always love to be in a society that is clean and green. We all are advocates for a neat and clean society, pollution free environment; but how many of us do actually make an effort for that. Ask yourself? None of us would prefer to live in a dirty surrounding, there is hardly anyone who does not complains about unattended garbage, open manholes, filthy society and civic agencies not being prompt in their duties. It’s true that civic agencies are responsible for taking care of our society but it’s also important that we must realize our responsibilities to our society and environment; and do our share.

Clean Society

Clean Society

Shrugging off our shoulders of the litter and dirt, cursing the government and civic agencies is not entirely right. Living in the society, being a part of the environment, we too have a moral responsibility to contribute to the environment we are breathing in. Understand the situation with parties that you host at your home. When couple of guests visits your home, especially kids, definitely the house gets mismanaged and littered. The question is do we walk away blaming the guest and leave the house as it is; or we do get irritated, but clean the house and get it back into shape. Same should be our attitude and responsibility for our society, city and environment as well. Contribute your share!

Here are few easy and effective tips which will help us in keeping our society clean:-

1)    Be the change that you want to see in others: We always complain about the things and processes that have not been taken care of… Most of the time we ourselves don’t follow them. The first thing that is needed to be done is to change ourselves into the person we want others to be. Why wait for other to do the right things, take initiative and lead the way.

2)    Don’t litter: Please don’t litter in your society and/or roads. Set a good example. Use dustbins, it will help in keeping the society clean. If society is plagued by litter then consult with your society members, president and other authorities in order to organize an awareness camp. Work with them and volunteers to clean the litters.

3)    Don’t dispose garbage in open areas:  Use dustbin or other means for dumping the waste material. People even in urban areas are seen throwing the waste on road or around open park areas. By organizing awareness camp you can help them in understanding the importance of using dustbin.

4)    Plant trees/Adopt trees: You should plant trees in your society or you can also adapt any tree and take care of that. Trees will help in controlling the pollution atleast a little bit. Having lots of trees in your society will help you have fresh air for you and your kids, balanced rainfall, and with a beautiful green society you will inspire others to follow the track and save the city and environment.

5)    Proper storage of water: Water is the most important part of life. Excess or deficit, both, of water not only makes us cry, but can lead to severe damages as well. Proper storage of water can help us combat many problems. We should try to store rain waters; with proper arrangements and help of society members we can utilize them for future usage. Water logging around the society if not managed leads to mosquito breeding which can cause various disease like Dengue, malaria, chickengunia etc.

6)    Be real eco-friendly: Don’t just talk about eco-friendly concepts and principles, abide by them. Use herbals colors in Holi; avoid using crackers on Diwali; do not dump e-waste (worn out electrical equipments, gadgets, etc.) or plastic waste; avoid using vehicles for short distances, instead walk or use a bicycle; do not overcharge your mobile batteries, charge only when the battery drains out.

If you have any more suggestions and ideas, do share with us and we will include them in our ‘Help the Society’ list.

Know the Smartest Way to Use Your Credit Card

Credit cards we all use; but how many of us know the smartest way to use a credit card. Smartest way! Is this a new concept? Don’t worry, it’s nothing surprising. In today’s fast running life, hectic schedules and in the race to be ahead of our friends and colleagues; we hardly have time to spare on these minute points.

Credit Card

Credit cards or plastic money have become an integral part of our life today; providing us the luxury of purchasing things, paying bills, booking tickets without necessarily having cash in hands. No doubt this exemption on the requirement of hard cash has made our lives simpler and helps us maintain our expenses. At the same time this luxury leads us to overspending and we finally land in a situation where it becomes difficult to manage things later.

Using a credit card, we simply see the bright side; getting happy thinking that instead of paying the whole amount of payment/purchase in cash (which we may be short of); we used our credit card and will later pay the amount in various small installments over coming months. Doing so, most of us stay ignorant to the black side of this overspending and huge credit card bills. While paying small amounts month after month and keeping the credit card bill always in five digits or so, actually hits our savings and indirectly our other affordability.

So while knowing how to use a credit card, it is important to learn how we can make the best and effective use of our credit cards.

Here are few tips to make the smartest use of a credit card:-

1. Know the credit card before accepting it. Read the whole agreement and ask the agent to explain all the details like interest charges, service charges, benefits, rewards, etc.
2. Prefer to keep only one credit card. It’s true that they help us in crunch situation, but having too many of them can more likely lead to overspending and in huge bill amounts. Keep one credit card and earn reward point on that which you can later encash.
3. Avoid using credit card to make all purchases, even on the regular items like clothes, food, rashan, etc. It is advisable to use debit card or cash wherever possible, especially for smaller or regular expenses.
4. It is advisable to clear all dues on time. Paying minimum amount increases the interest and it will further take time to clear all your debt. Interest rates are usually very high which makes us pay more than what we have expected.
5. Know the billing cycle of card and spend in such a way that you can enjoy maximum interest free period before payment time.
6. Don’t miss your payment date. Pay off your credit card bills on time and get out of the credit debt on your card(s). Banks put a lot of charges on the bill amount and this may increase your expense. In case you are aware that you may miss the date inform the bank in advance about this.
7. Understand the star mark details of credit card statement. It is important to understand the statement and charges mentioned in that .This will help you in better utilization of your card and falling prey to the extra charges.
8. Stock your purchase receipts, so that you can match them with the statement and in case of any discrepancy you can refer to them and get the corrections done.
9. Mark a limit of expense for yourself, say 30-35% of your credit card limit with regard to the amount you can comfortably pay next month. If you spend more than that, it could be difficult for you to pay the amount at once. Then you will have to consequently keep paying further to clear the amount.
10. Banks provide cash withdrawal facility with the use of credit card, but try to avoid withdrawal using your card and live your life within your limitations.
11. Be active and know about the offers on your card, floating in the market. You should have full idea of which type of card you are using, which brands offers discount on them and what other benefits you have by using it smartly.
12. Don’t offer your credit card to friends or use your card for others’ shopping, even if they promise to pay the amount as you would be unnecessarily adding to your interest amount.
13. Try to save more and in case of emergency use that fund instead of using your card.

5 Quick and Most Easy Tips to Become a Good Photographer

sunset

Life is once and every passing moment is precious, worth capturing and framing. Whether a pro or an amateur, whether have a professional camera in hand or a smartphone; we just click and capture.

Somewhere, somehow there is a photographer inside all of us, who may be hesitant at handling a camera whenever one comes in their hand. But when at ease, with our own camera/smartphone, at our comfort zone; we never give a second thought clicking when something funny or beautiful is around us, or just to capture our own adorable reflection. Passion or motivation for photography may differ, levels of expertise could differ; but rules and tricks of photography stand the same for everyone. All we got to do is to known some basics of handling the camera and selecting a frame.

Following are five quick and easy tips to keep in mind before pressing the click button and capture a good photograph. These tips will help you in stepping a confident step on the ladder of Photography. Here are the tips:

  1. Don’t hustle: Take your time; it is better to be slow rather than hustle and spoil a beautiful picture for the hurry of saving 1 min. A basic difference between a good photographer and an amateur is the hurry to get rid of this clicking job. Whether clicking at their own choice or volunteering to help couples/strangers, I have seen many people just pressing the click button or touching the click on touch screens and move their hands/camera. This is the most common observation in the second case, when at tourist spots a stranger asks you to take their picture. You do agree but just click and get rid of it, without bothering the camera was still capturing and you just blurred an otherwise beautiful picture.
The second part of taking time is to have a proper look at the camera and the click button. Many-a-times people don’t give attention to the exact point of press and while taking picture they run their finger tip to locate it, which may lead to disturbance of the setting.
  2. Check the direction of Light: Direction of light is one of prime importance to take care of before getting ready for your click. Either the object to be captured should be facing light that means the object must be opposite direction of light source, or it should be in shadow or darkness. If light source is at the back of the object the background would be brighter and your object would get darker, obstructing the light at its back. Well if the position of the object cannot be shifted due then try to shift your position a bit and find the angle that can fetch you a balanced look.
  3. Check the frame: By checking the frame of object means trying to bring in a parallel orientation with the dimensions of your object. A straight line/orientation when included in picture gives a tidy look to you work. These line and alignments or orientations could be the width of river or foothill of the mountain or edges of the wall. Taking care of this minuteness is no compulsion, but including them gives a beautiful balance to the picture. The same is if in corner or is inclined or cut out, no harm is done to the pictures. They just make your photography look tidy and appealing.
  4. Aperture and Focus: Aperture and focus are of concern in the manual settings of the camera, if you are using an automatic camera or auto settings, then you can ignore them. But even in automatic cameras, knowing the importance of each and controlling them will help you have the desired and varying balance between object and background.
  5. Take multiple clicks: Well this one is my favorite. While taking a picture why run a risk of apprehensions like whether you captured it right, did your hands shake, etc. Why not take multiple clicks while taking every important picture, doing so even if you made mistake there are greater chance of getting one good click, if you took 2 or 3.waterfall

Well these are quiet easy to take care of and are great help to start. So they have been for me. I have always feared handling a camera and so had to face a lot of criticism as well. But with the timely tips of my brother and husband, finally I am a decent photographer often coming up with real wow pictures.

So grab you camera and win over your nervousness and just click. Do share stories of your great pictures with me.
